Medical Aid Patients (South Africa)

At Maine Radiology we only charge the specified medical aid rate for most examinations as determined by your particular medical scheme.

The account remains your responsibility to settle, we will submit your accounts on your behalf to your medical aid scheme if it is in good standing order.

When making your appointment

If you are a member of a medical scheme, please provide the following information when making your appointment:

Name of the medical scheme
Membership number
ID number
Referring doctor

Please also bring the following to your appointment:

Original membership card or proof of your current medical scheme membership
ID or drivers license
Doctor’s referral letter

Remember to always bring the following with:

ID Document or drivers license
Medical Aid membership card or proof of your medical scheme membership
Doctor’s referral letter
Information about previous scans and procedures
Pacemaker registration card, or any medical device information

We advise you to review your medical aid plan details to confirm whether a co-payment would apply for your radiographic examination or would be covered from your medical savings account (where applicable).

You can determine whether the service is related to a prescribed minimum benefit condition (PMB) and, if so what the scheme requirements are for accessing PMB funding. You can find out more about PMB conditions on the Council for Medical Schemes website – www.medicalschemes.com

Some medical scheme plans include medical savings account for day-to-day benefits and some may only offer in-hospital benefits. The scheme rules may indicate that the scheme will only settle your account from the amount available in your medical savings account.

In certain circumstances, a co-payment may be required, and/or your benefits may be depleted. To the extent that this information is known at the time of service, immediate settlement of the shortfall will be required.

PRE-AUTHORISATION

Certain radiographic examinations, particularly CT and MRI, require pre-authorisation. Our authorisation department will liaise with the medical scheme on your behalf prior to your radiographic examination. Pre-authorisation is, however, not a guarantee of payment and does not absolve you from the responsibility of settling our account.

QUOTE / STATEMENT

For an estimate or quote prior to your procedure please contact the relevant department (see below) or enquire at the accounts desk at that specific department. Please note that a quote is only an estimated amount as certain items (e.g. consumables and contrast materials) can only be determined during a procedure based on a patient’s individual circumstances.
